Increased Activity
There is nothing better for losing weight and loving your body
than activity. Notice that I didn't say exercise. Exercise is
hard to do. Most of us struggle when it comes to putting on the exercise
outfit and going to the gym. How can you satisfy the need for
activity and the dread of the gym?
First you must understand that you
cannot lose weight without activity. You metabolism is how much you move
and burn energy. If you stop moving when you diet, you stop burning
calories, and your diet fails. All diets are
battles between your bodies desire to cut back on muscle and your desire to cut
back on unwanted fat. Activity sends the message that you want your
body to dump the fat.
This diet does not ask you to go to the gym or get expensive
equipment. We ask you to participate in two
activities.
- Start Slow: If you have not worked out in while, there is no
need to hurt yourself. Start by walking more, never taking another
elevator, or just taking time to dance every morning as you get
up. Build up to your inner gym rat.
- Use your head: Spend each day thinking as you
get up of ways you can build more activity into your day.
- Go outside and play: Join a city leage. Play
with the kids. Make a hobby. Go walking with a neighbor or your
husband. Spend more time with people. It will improve your mood
and health.
- Serve: Service requires time on your feet and
gives you a happy feeling inside.
- Ditch the car: Try to build in walking time with
your car tasks. Park far away from your store, take a bus and
do not sit down. Do anything to move.
- Take a break: Your co workers get cigerette breaks.
Ask for walk breaks. you do not have to get sweaty to get results.
- Get a pedometer. You can get them at any
drug store for less than 5 dollars. Your goal is to get
10,000 steps everyday. This was average 50 years back, but
not today. You will burn almost as many calories walking
those steps as if you had run them. Walking is the ultimate
weight control strategy. Getting your steps is easy.
Take walk breaks at work every 35 minutes to clear your mind.
Take the stairs. Park as far from the store as possible.
Look for all the ways that you can add steps to your day.
When you get home go on a walk with the family.
- Do 30 minutes of some kind of deliberate exercise
a day. This could be anything from walking fast to lifting
the weights in your garage. You do not have to put all the
time in at once. Do 10 minutes in the morning by sitting
up in bed. Do leg lifts in that bathroom at lunch.
Do lunges while vacuuming. Anything that gets your heart
rate up for a moment.
You will not be gaining much muscle as it is very difficult to put muscle on when dieting, but if you maintain your muscle (the biggest part of your
metabolism) You will reach you weight loss goal more quickly.
We have suggested 17 simple activities that anyone can do. Find those that you like, throw out the rest. Record your life and you will do well.
Most importantly: Remember the more you move, the more you get to eat!
